Basic Office Installation
XY Graphics has a small business unit with 4 extensions. They are interested in installing VoIP to increase the flexibility of the telephone communications and to reduce call costs. In the future they are also looking to expand by taking on two graphics designers who will largely work from home. They have a fairly limited PC and printer infrastructure at present.
How could a VoIP solution work for them?

Their specification: 4 Desk phones. 1 outgoing trunk for internet calls. They will also want to link two existing DDI lines into the new softPBX.

It is probably sensible to install a second network so that their VoIP phones are not on the same network as their current PC equipment. If their cabling is already at least Cat5E standard they could also consider upgrading their network hardware and using the existing cabling.
We recommended that they either upgraded their current ADSL line, or installed a second line especially for VoIP use. This means that their normal communications with clients for email and large graphic files etc. do not use bandwidth that is required for the VoIP traffic.
They need to plan where they want the 4 phones to be sited. Ideally they need a network wall port to be easily accessible at every location.
Expansion
- Add outbound VoIP trunks to make low cost or even free calls
- Incorporate PSTN lines into the softPBX.
- Need more extensions? You can easily add new IP phones into the system.
- Add remote extensions when:
- you have staff that work from home.
- you have the need for a part time receptionist.
- your staff often travel and include an overnight hotel stop.
